Main art:
Their farewells had been said in the great hall by the fire, and they were only waiting now for Gandalf, who had not yet come out of the house. A gleam of firelight came from the open doors, and soft lights were glowing in many windows. Bilbo huddled in a cloak stood silent on the doorstep beside Frodo. Aragorn sat with his head bowed to his knees; only Elrond knew fully what this hour meant to him.“The Ring Goes South”, pg 273

Day 34 of 365 in 2013
“The Council Of Elrond” / Chapter XIV of The Lord Of The Rings / 14 of 62 / view whole collection here
Main art: This chapter is basically a giant history lesson by Elrond (which I enjoy, just to clarify) and the different colours signify the different owners the Ring has had – red and yellow fire for Sauron, forest green and mist blue for Isildur, dark, nearly complete black for Gollum, navy blue for Bilbo (signifying how he brought it out from the mountain), and sage green for wholesome Shire Frodo. I just typed that with a straight face…
Complementary art: Boromir and Aragorn (because an alternate title for this chapter, besides “History Lesson”, is “Boromir Doubts Everything”)
Day 31 of 365 in 2013
“Many Meetings” / Chapter XIII of The Lord Of The Rings / 13 of 62 / view whole collection here
Main art:
At first the beauty of the melodies and of the interwoven words in elven-tongues, even though he understood them little, held him in a spell, as soon as he began to attend to them. Almost it seemed that the words took shape, and visions of bright things he had never yet imagined opened out before him; and the firelit hall became like a golden mist above seas of foam that sighed upon the margins of the world. Then the enchantment became more and more dreamlike, until he felt that an endless river of swelling gold and silver was flowing over him, too multitudinous for its pattern to be comprehended; it became part of the throbbing air about him, and it drenched and drowned him. Swiftly he sank under its shining weight into a deep realm of sleep. Then he wandered long in a dream of music that turned into running water, then suddenly a voice.
